Course content
A brief overview of the history of computing: the historical stages, generations of computers, research and production, current development. Working under Windows 8/7/XP: Basics of Windows, basic networking: network logon, changing user passwords, mapping and using network drives. Working with programs for managing files, folders and computers (Windows Explorer, Total Commander, WinZip, WinRAR, 7-Zip, Dropbox, Unison, CCleaner), their properties and internal commands. Basic user maintenance and settings. Names of files and folders. Localization of systems and programs. Working with Microsoft Office: Microsoft Word and its use, creation of text documents. Microsoft Excel spreadsheet and its use, document creation in Excel, graphing. The integration of Microsoft Office via OLE technology, data sharing. Microsoft Outlook. The OpenOffice.org Office Suite and its equivalents for Word (Writer) and Excel (Calc). Typesetting, fonts, typography: content vs. form = author vs. typographer, basic typesetting rules, typographic treatment, fonts, their basic classification and use. Design of printed matter, or less is always more. Web design. The mention of typographical system LaTeX. Work on the Internet: Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Microsoft Outlook Express (Microsoft Mail), connection settings, settings of the software, accessories.
